Love blooms in brilliant colour, then life intervenes. THE UMBRELLAS OF CHERBOURG stars Catherine Deneuve as Geneviève, an umbrella-shop owner’s daughter in love with a handsome mechanic. When he is sent to fight in Algeria, their romance is tested by absence, duty and growing up. Jacques Demy’s exquisite musical is sung-through, heart-tugging and unforgettable.

Rialto Recommends THE UMBRELLAS OF CHERBOURG is pure cinematic enchantment: dazzlingly designed, exquisitely sung and quietly devastating. Jacques Demy and Michel Legrand turn young love into a kaleidoscope of colour and melody, while Catherine Deneuve glows with star-making delicacy. One of cinema’s great musicals, it is romantic, bittersweet and impossibly beautiful.
