Women Behind the Lens
Celebrating Women in Film - International Women’s Day
This March, Rialto View presents Women Behind the Lens - a festival-driven season dedicated to women shaping cinema and cultural storytelling.
At its core is our Shirley Horrocks Retrospective, including her portrait of photographer Marti Friedlander - a defining work in Aotearoa documentary practice.
Across the programme, international festival selections such as Clara Sola, Apolonia, Apolonia, Miss Marx, Simone: Women of the Century, Janis: Little Girl Blue, Ingrid Bergman: In Her Own Words, Mambar Pierrette and Pili sit alongside music, performance and artist portraits including Knowing the Score, Mozart’s Sister, Mama Africa, Joyce DiDonato: Eden, Pat Steir: Artist, Once Aurora, and The Female Voice of Afghanistan.
Together, these films reflect authorship, artistic vision and the enduring presence of women behind the camera.
